SVP MUSCC

Our Mission is to seek and find those in need, to help them in a spirit of justice and to tackle the causes of poverty where we can.

What is SVP MUSCC?
SVP MUSCC stands for - St Vincent de Paul Society Conference at Manchester Universities' Catholic Chaplaincy. It is a student led, student organised and student composed community. A group of committed students who express their Faith every week through charitable acts amongst the poor, elderly, disadvantaged youth, learning disabled and anyone else in need of our assistance. The SVP is a way to give back to the community and to be a Christian witness amongst the people of Manchester.

Who founded SVP and is there any spirituality or common theme?

Blessed Frederic Ozanam founded the SVP in 1833. Blessed Frederic had been confronted by a socialist whilst in a debate about religion and challenged to "Show us your works!". He then realised that to give true testimony to the Faith he needed to bring Christian teaching fully into his everyday life. He formed together a group of people who would go out to the poor and serve them. Hence the SVP was founded. Inspired by the life of St Vincent de Paul, who worked tirelessly amongst the poor and destitute, the SVP Society works to hard to provide support to people from all denominations, beliefs and walks of life.

Where & When?
SVP MUSCC meets every Monday at 7pm in Manchester Universities' Catholic Chaplaincy (opposite University of Manchester Student Union). Students from all Universities, Colleges and Schools of Music in Manchester are welcome to come along and find out what we are all about and hopefully to get involved in
