What is L'Arche?
L'Arche was founded by Jean Vanier, a Catholic philosopher and theologian, in 1964. It is an international organisation of communities within which learning disabled core members can live alongside live in assistants in a caring, peaceful and familial environment. L'Arche's spirituality is derived from its founder Jean Vanier who has written many, many books on the subject.
...L'Arche Manchester?
The new community house in Didsbury is set to open its doors to core members in 2013. It has been a long and difficult journey for the L'Arche community to set up a house with many struggles of finance, funding and logistics. The good news however is core members look set to move in after Easter in April / May 2013!
Why does SVP MUSCC care?
The SVP Society at Manchester Universities' Catholic Chaplaincy is highly interested in the activities of this worthwhile local L'Arche community as it is prosperous non-judgemental community committed to working together for the benefit of its members. Kevin Coogan the L'Arche Manchester Community Leader has given talks at the University regarding L'Arche Manchester which has caught the attention of many students.
